Tens and tenths

Set the constant on your calculator to multiply by 10.

On simple calculators this is usually done by pressing these buttons:

Choose a whole number less than 10 and put it in your calculator.

Write it down.

Now press = and write down the number you get.

Now press = 5 more times and writing down the numbers each time.

Compare your numbers. What do you notice?

Try with 2 different numbers.

Choose a whole number of thousands greater than 1000 and put it in your calculator.

Write it down.

Now press = and write down the number you get.

Now press = 5 more times and writing down the numbers each time.

Compare your numbers. What do you notice?

Try with 2 different numbers.

Repeat the second activity, this time setting the constant to multiply by 0·1
